In 2018, Hungary had its own pavilion at the China International Import Expo. In collaboration with CreaCity, we designed the concept of the stand, the installation elements, the graphic design and the interactive activities related to the theme of the exhibition.
When preparing the concept plans, we started from the way the Chinese people see Hungary. According to their accounts, Hungary is a meeting point for them, a meeting point between East and West, old and new, classic and modern. We are located where the East meets the West.
This duality was the main inspiration for the design of the stand structure, which is perfectly symbolised by the parasitic architectural style. It is a form of urban architecture where old buildings, already heavily weathered, are transformed into modern buildings while retaining their structure. The elements of the stand evoke the atmosphere of a downtown pedestrian street, but the complex is divided by a strong line. A line running through the entire stand symbolised the meeting of two worlds. On one side, the walls were decorated with the historical architectural motifs of Budapest, while on the other side a modern structure of transparent glass panels was used to flow the elements, referring to the modern solutions of the present day.
